Meeting the president of the United States of America at the White House is a dream come true for many people, but that moment can also turn uncomfortable for some.
That’s what happened to some members of a Juventus delegation that visited Washington D.C. ahead of their clash against Al-Ain, as part of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
The soccer players were received at the White House by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump. Also present at the meeting, aimed at promoting the international tournament, was FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Representing Juventus was the CEO of Exor and President of Stellantis, John Elkann, Juventus CEO Maurizio Scanavino, General Manager Damien Comolli, Director of Football Strategy Giorgio Chiellini, Coach Igor Tudor and players Weston McKennie, Timothy Weah, Manuel Locatelli, Federico Gatti, Teun Koopmeiners and Dusan Vlahovic.
Juventus player says he was not excited to meet Trump
“It was all a surprise, actually they told us we had to go and we didn’t have much choice. I was caught off guard, it was all a bit strange. When he started talking about politics and Iran and all that, I was just thinking: ‘man, I just want to play football’,” he said to the media.
President Trump wished the American players luck during the visit, saying he hoped they were “going to be the best two players on the field.” He’s probably going to meet a lot of more soccer players during the next couple of months, as the United States gets ready to host the 2026 World Cup, alongside Canada and Mexico.
Juventus wins big during their debut
As for Juventus, the Italian club rolled to a five-goal win in a dominant outing against Al Ain in Washington, D.C. Francisco Conceicao scored twice in the blowout win, and Juventus took a 3-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Al Ain didn’t stand much of a chance, and managed just 10 shots on goal compared to the 16 that Juventus put up. The Italian team shares group with England powerhouse Manchester City and Moroccan club Wydad AC. Experts believe that Manchester and the Bianconieri will advance to the next stage of the tournament.
