Julio Urias was Mexico’s figure in MLB when he got into trouble with the law in the United States for assaulting his wife in Los Angeles.
As soon as the incident occurred, the Dodgers suspended him pending investigation and resolution of the case. Regardless of the court ruling, the Major League Baseball office suspended the left-hander from Sinaloa until Thursday, so he is now a free agent to negotiate with teams that wish to sign him.
Julio Urias hopes Scott Boras will return him to MLB
After two suspensions for domestic violence in his career, it remains to be seen which teams will dare to give him a chance to take the pitching mound.
To open the doors, Urias has Scott Boras, the agent who gets the most lucrative contracts in Major League Baseball, such as Juan Soto‘s $765 million, 15-year deal with the New York Mets.
“He got every intention to continue his career. He’s getting himself in shape. Obviously, he’ll have options available,” said the so-called Super Agent
For his part, Los Angeles Times journalist Bill Shaikin, who interviewed Boras, added that “several teams are believed to have inquired about Urias, but it is not certain that a deal will be reached and, if so, whether he could help a major league team.”
What was Julio Urias’ sentence?
California justice sentenced Julio Urias to 36 months probation with 30 days of community service, complete a 52-week domestic violence course and pay a fee to the domestic violence fund.
When his assault occurred, Urias was on his way to free agency and was projected to get a contract in excess of $200 million. Now at 28 years of age it remains to be seen whether he will have the chance to return to MLB, although if he does, he would no longer be so well paid, at least not at the start if he signs with any of the 30 organizations.
