Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. wants to get his boxing career back on track after his hiatus due to addiction problems and his arrest in the United States in 2025.

Since his return in 2024, he has defeated Uriah Hall and Angel Sacco, the latter last Saturday in San Luis Potosi, and in between he lost to Jake Paul in June 2025. In total, his professional record is 54-7-1.

Chavez Jr. wants to face the winner of Benavidez vs. Zurdo Ramirez

Chavez Jr. has expressed his desire to be world champion again, after being champion in 2011 by the WBC in the middleweight division, a title he defended in three fights until he was dethroned by Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez.

After knocking out Sacco on Saturday, Julio Cesar Chavez‘s son reaffirmed his plans and already has the cruiserweight in mind with the winner of May 2.

“I would like a fight with the winner of the Mexican fight between David Benavidez and Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez for the championship,” said the 39-year-old.

Can JC Chavez Jr. be world champion?

Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the World Boxing Council, asks Chavez Jr. to earn the opportunity with his results and that age is not a problem.

“As a former world champion he has merit, but also what happens in the ring. To return to the rankings, it depends on the performance on Saturday. Age is not an obstacle, he has the quality to move forward in boxing,” said Sulaiman.
