Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. did beat Jake Paul… at least in the fight earnings

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr‘s return to the ring was uninspiring. The nickname “Son of the Legend” is only for biological reasons and far from boxing qualities. However, after an insipid fight by the Mexican, at least he can boast that he was able to beat Jake Paul in one aspect, a YouTube personality who won by unanimous decision at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, on June 28. The scorecards were 99-91, 97-93 and 98-92 in his favor.

Due to the rules in California, the fight purse has been made public, revealing what each boxer earned. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. took home $750,000 in the fight, a surprisingly higher figure than Jake Paul, according to information from the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

Jake Paul’s guaranteed purse is 50% less than what Chavez Jr earned

For Jake Paul, the fight was only $300,000. However, it is important to note that the YouTuber probably earned much more, as the CSAC only discloses the guaranteed purse, so it does not disclose the money that Paul would have earned from pay-per-view sales or what he was paid by his promoter. With his victory last Saturday, Paul improved his record to 12-1-0 (7 KOs). However, Chavez Jr.’s performance left much to be desired, as seems to be the case in most of Jake Paul’s fights.

In the early rounds, Jake Paul was more confident, and Julio Cesar was more reserved and even scared. In the third round, it was evident how he took a couple of steps back at each feint from the YouTuber. His father would not have been scared. On the contrary, he would raise his guard, take the cannon shot and prepare his offensive weapons to counterattack. But that was not the “Junior’s” objective, his plan was to survive a night in Anaheim and cash the check.

Jake Paul stays in the ring and is already thinking about his next opponents

It is worth mentioning that Gilberto Zurdo Ramirez was the highest earning fighter on the card, with $1.5 million in his unanimous decision victory against Yuniel Dorticos. Raul Curiel earned $125,000 for his knockout victory against Victor Rodriguez, and both Floyd Schofield and Tevin Farmer earned the same amount for their fight. Schofield scored a brutal first-round knockout. Former UFC champion and Boxing Hall of Famer Holly Holm earned $100,000 for her emphatic victory over Yolanda Vega.

The night at the Honda Center was a formality for Chavez Jr. to lose the fight. At first he seemed reluctant to let his hands go, but it was not until the ninth round that the Mexican finally opened up and landed some good punches. Paul, for his part, remained disciplined throughout the fight, using his jab and some good body attacks. After this victory, in the final interview he highlighted names such as Gervonta Davis and Tommy Fury as his next opponents.
