Last Sunday, many Mexicans were worried by the news that perhaps the most important boxer in the history of Mexico, Julio Cesar Chavez, had to be rushed to hospital and undergo surgery at the Los Angeles Hospital in Culiacan, Sinaloa. Fortunately, there was no major complication with his health and he came out of the surgery completely well, safe and sound.
Why was Julio Cesar Chavez operated on in an emergency?
The boxer was not feeling well and medical examinations found the cause of his pain. “For a long time I have been taking care of the champion’s health here in Culiacan and this time he has a little pain that is caused by a stone in the left ureter, and right now we are going to remove it,” said the doctor of the ‘Great Mexican Champion’, urologist Ivan Aguilar, in a video shared by Omar Chavez, one of the former national boxer’s sons on his Instagram account.
“Well, well, thank you doctor, they are very ready. God willing, we have a champion for a while,” said Julio Cesar Chavez himself before entering the operating room to send an optimistic message to his fans.
How did Julio Cesar Chavez’s surgery go?
After the intervention, the former boxer thanked the doctors who treated him. “I’m here with the three doctors, Iman Aguilar, Juan Carlos and Dr. Sergio Sandoval, who was my doctor all my life.” Then, pointing to the doctor on his left, Chavez became emotional: “Here, the doctor was the one who really saved my life, because what I had was a little dangerous, the truth is that it was already getting pus,” he said. “We removed a stone from the left kidney, which was already infected, but everything is very well and he is ready to return to training,” confirmed the doctor.
“All right, friends, let’s get to it,” said Julio Cesar Chavez before being discharged from the hospital to return to his normal life. The Mexican champion’s desire before suffering this medical problem, according to his own words a few days ago, was to hold an exhibition fight next December 13 in San Luis Potosi, coinciding with the fights of his sons Julio and Omar.
Julio Cesar Chavez’s wife also clarified some details about the operation. “A lot of people are calling me worried, it turns out that he got a pain, he went to check and it turned out that he had some little stones there that needed to be removed because they say it is very painful. So it’s something quick, it’s something simple and he said: ‘at once, do what you have to do,'” said Myriam Escobar.
“Everything is fine, everything is fine, Julio is fine, anything he checks and quickly wants to do things. He is super good, the stones were dissolved and there is nothing more to worry about. As he says: there is a champion for a while. Thank you very much for your nice wishes, it is very much appreciated,” he said.
Julio Cesar Chavez remains a boxing analyst with TV Azteca and is keeping an eye on the legal situation of his eldest son, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who is at liberty while the process continues for arms trafficking offenses and alleged links to the Sinaloa Cartel.
