Julio Cesar Chavez is undoubtedly one of the most iconic names in Mexican and world boxing history. Throughout his career, the Mexican legend established himself as a true icon of the sport, with an impressive record, world titles in multiple divisions and a fighting style that made him what he is today.

However, outside the ring, the Chavez family’s life has not been without its difficulties. Julio Cesar’s sons, who also ventured into the boxing world, have faced various challenges over the years. Beyond their performances in the ring, their careers have been marked by ups and downs including injuries and addictions.

This mix of family history, boxing legacy and personal problems has kept the Chavez family in the public eye. Now, Julio Cesar has spoken about the future of his children in this world of boxing and said: “time has already passed them by”.

Julio Cesar Chavez and the future of his children in boxing

After various personal problems, Omar and Chavez Jr. will return to activity this weekend in San Luis Potosi. So their careers as boxers continue, although for the boxing legend it is already a little too late for this situation.

Although Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. emphasized that “they did it clean and healthy, that’s the most important thing”, in an interview with Rodolfo Vargas for Azteca Deportes after his sons’ return to the ring.

What was surprising were the statements made by the Mexican legend when talking about the future of his children, saying: “I want Julio and Omar to have four or five fights and then retire, because I think their time has passed (in boxing)”.

In addition to his problems with addiction, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. faced problems after being deported from the United States to Mexico for alleged links to organized crime.

But by solving the legal and personal situation of Jr., he managed to prepare for Saturday’s fight, which makes Julio Cesar happy to see the continuation of his children’s career.

Julio Cesar sees a title option from Jr.

“I feel good, happy, because as you say it was a difficult year because of Julio, then everything settled down, thank God,” said Julio Cesar Chavez when talking about the situation of his children.

“And happy because it seems that this was the good one, both Omar and Julio I think they have understood that this path that did not lead them to excel so much in boxing was only an ephemeral stage, because they deviated,” said the Mexican legend.

This opportunity is vital for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to achieve redemption and prove that he is still a capable boxer to stay within the elite and think about a possible confrontation to go for a world title.

Omar Chavez will face Colombian Jose Miguel Torres, while Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will face Argentine Angel Julian this Saturday, January 24 in San Luis Potosi.
