JuJu Smith-Schuster breaks silence after bloody postgame brawl with Brian Branch

After several days of silence following one of the NFL’s most talked-about postgame incidents, JuJu Smith-Schuster has finally re-emerged and his response wasn’t what fans expected.

The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver, who was left bleeding after being punched by Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch, broke his silence with a lighthearted TikTok video, dancing alongside his dog to a trending song.

The post marked Smith-Schuster‘s first public appearance since the viral melee that unfolded moments after the Chiefs’ 30-17 win over the Lions at Arrowhead Stadium.

The contrast between his upbeat post and the chaos of Sunday night’s scuffle was stark and fans immediately took notice.

The incident began just after Patrick Mahomes took a knee to close out the victory. Branch, still frustrated over an uncalled block in the back earlier in the game, approached Smith-Schuster near midfield.

When the receiver extended a hand, Branch swung instead, striking him in the face. The blow sent Smith-Schuster stumbling backward, his helmet shifting as blood streamed from his nose.

What followed was an on-field brawl involving multiple players from both teams before officials and coaches stepped in to separate them.

As Smith-Schuster walked to the locker room holding a towel to his face, cameras caught the aftermath – the Chiefs’ wideout visibly furious, while Branch was escorted off the field by teammates.

NFL suspends Branch, who admits his punch was “childish”

The NFL moved quickly to hand down punishment, suspending Brian Branch for one game without pay for instigating the fight. The Lions safety will miss the team’s upcoming Monday night matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and lose just over $75,000 in salary.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Branch didn’t hide from responsibility but said frustration led him to lash out. “I did a real childish thing,” he admitted. “I’m tired of people doing stuff in between plays, and refs don’t catch it. They be trying to bully me out there. I shouldn’t have did it – it was childish.”

Branch claimed his anger stemmed from a late-game block by Smith-Schuster that he believed was illegal and could have caused injury. “I got blocked in the back illegally,” he said. “And it was in front of the ref, and the ref didn’t do anything.”

Lions head coach Dan Campbell didn’t mince words either, calling Branch’s behavior “inexcusable” and publicly apologizing to Andy Reid and the Chiefs organization. “That’s not who we are,” Campbell told reporters. “You can’t let emotions take over like that.”

For his part, Patrick Mahomes defended his teammate and emphasized the Chiefs’ professionalism. “We play the game in between the whistles,” Mahomes said. “We don’t let that kind of stuff dictate how we carry ourselves.”

The altercation marked the 14th fine of Branch‘s career and his fourth of the season, cementing his reputation as one of the league’s most volatile defenders.

Meanwhile, Smith-Schuster‘s quiet comeback on social media suggested a different tone – one of indifference, even defiance. Rather than address the incident directly, the former Super Bowl champion appeared content to move forward, letting his actions on the field do the talking.

Still, the image of his bloodied face after the final whistle lingers, a stark reminder of how quickly emotions can boil over in the heat of competition.

Whether Smith-Schuster truly moves on or uses this as motivation heading into the next stretch of the season remains to be seen, but for now, he’s dancing through the drama.
