Juan Soto’s surprising response when asked about the greatest hitter of all time: “Until they prove me wrong…”

It is undeniable that Juan Soto has revolutionized the narratives surrounding modern baseball, and he has done so both on and off the field, in the sporting arena and also in the dance of the millions that now move this and other sports, but as in all activities, there is an enemy that looms like the sword of Damocles over the heads of all sportsmen: arrogance.

And why does this have to do with Juan Soto? During a recent interview with ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the New York Metsslugger and outfielder responded in a really surprising way to the question of who is the greatest hitter of all time? In a sport with the history that baseball has in the United States, there are plenty of examples of answers to this question. And for tastes the colors, and perspectives too, as well as hard facts and statistics.

History will judge him

That’s why it’s surprising that Soto’s answer to the question was: “Me, until they prove me wrong,” when there are names like Pete Rose, Ty Cobb or Hank Aaron, among many others.

It is no secret that Juan Soto and Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani have changed the game, and that their actions on the field speak for them, but it seems a little excessive that even before the season begins with the Mets, the Dominican talks about being the best of all time when he has precisely everything to prove and continue adding to his great numbers that today are in a .288 batting average and a .417 on-base percentage, after an excellent season with the Yankees with 166 hits, 41 home runs, 109 RBIs and 128 runs scored in a total of 157 games.

Another hitter that Soto stands out

In the same interview, when asked about another great hitter besides himself, Soto was quick to mention Freddie Freeman: “I feel like he’s one of the best hitters I’ve ever seen,” and he must surely remember him from the last World Series in which the Yankees were exhibited by a Dodgers team in a state of grace.
