Juan Soto upsets Mets fans days into MLB season: What did he do?

Juan Soto finds himself in the bad books of both of New York City’s baseball teams as the ex-Yankee upsets the Mets fans by revealing he didn’t expect there to be so many of them across the United States.

The Dominican traded pinstriples for orange and blue in a shocking off-season switch that saw him sign a mammoth $765m contract at Citi Field, eclipsing the amount earned by the MLB’s MVP, Shohei Ohtani.

Naturally, Yankees fans were upset at the betrayal just weeks after their World Series loss and Mets fans rejoiced with hope their new man could lead them to a first title since 1986.

But the 26-year-old left-fielder must first redeem himself in the eyes of the devoted fanbase after accidentally slipping up by admitting he didn’t know how well supported they are.

“How many fans do they have,” Soto said of the Mets. “I am surprised at all the fans and everybody.”

Why are fans upset?

He was also shocked at the sheer number of fans in Houston too, with the Texan city located a huge 1,628 miles away from the Big Apple thus highlighting the reach the Mets actually have across the United States.

So why are fans upset their new man paid them the compliment of being shocked by just how well supported they actually are? It all goes back to his first press conference after signing.

Back then, the power hitter said New York had “been a Mets town for a long time”, in a dagger aimed square at the heart of the Yankees fans he once entertained 162 times per season.

Fans now question the integrity of those words, as well as pointing to other indicators suggesting he’s at Citi Field more for the pay check rather than the passionate people packing the rafters.
