Juan Soto ends hitless streak and backs up David Stearns’ confidence

It is a fact that Juan Soto has too much to prove with the New York Mets, and the weight of his multi-million dollar contract demands it, there is no doubt about that, but it is also a reality that when these conditions exist, the media scrutiny of a player of such value is so oppressive, that any success or failure tends to be magnified, to such an extent that the situation seems to be the same on the brink of glory as of hell.

Nothing could be further from the truth, which indicates otherwise in a season that, due to its length, often offers ups and downs in all teams and with all players. However, it is true, and as already said, that a $765 million ballplayer is expected only excellence and demonstration of hegemony. If not, ask Shohei Ohtani, who with the Dodgers has not disappointed for a single moment, even with a shoulder injury at the end of last season.

In the recent crisis of the Dominican, the president of the New York Mets, David Stearns, was one of the first to come to his defense: “I think he’s having good at-bats. He controls the strike zone pretty well. He’s hitting the ball on the ground a little bit more than before and it’s something he’s aware of“.

Soto was a factor in Friday’s win

The boss of the Queens team knows that more than physical, it is a mental issue that Soto has to work on constantly, as he believes that under pressure he has responded by trying too hard to please rather than being really effective. However, the narrative began to change on Friday night, when the Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies 4-2 at Citi Field, a game in which the Dominican went 4-2 with an RBI double in the third inning.

And the contrast came in the attitude of the player who remains optimistic about the slump he is already coming out of, and he told SNY TV: “I know I’ve been going through tough times and I haven’t been there for them, but I will be… It’s a matter of time; we don’t know when it will happen, but I’ll keep working,” words that he backed up with actions, just as David Stearns expected.
