Juan Soto asks Pete Alonso not to leave the Mets: “We can keep having fun together”

The name of Pete Alonso has been in the news about the Mets in the last week. As a free agent for the second consecutive season, the uncertainty about his future in New York grows day by day in this offseason. The possibility of him changing teams is something that generates mixed emotions in Juan Soto, who will always want the best for his teammate, but he also does not want him to leave.

During the MLB awards ceremony in Las Vegas, Soto was questioned by the press about Alonso’s case, because everything indicates that he will leave the team and they will no longer be together on the roster next season.

I wish him the best and I’m excited to see where he’s going to end up. He’s one of the best power hitters of this generation. I really enjoyed my time with him in a Mets uniform and hopefully we can have more times to come. We can have fun together.

Juan Soto

After failing to make the playoffs in the 2025 season as a result of the losing streak in the last eight games, Soto wants revenge the following year. However, his rematch sees Alonso with the Mets. He is confident that Pete will reach a good agreement with the organization to remain in New York.

The synchrony between Pete Alonso and Juan Soto

Soto and Alonso enjoyed their first season together in New York in the batter’s box. Juan overcame the slow start to the campaign and finished the season with a .263/.396/.525 slash line, 43 home runs, 105 RBIs and a career-high 38 stolen bases.

Pete played all 162 games for the second consecutive year and hit .272/.347/.524 with a career-high 41 doubles and 38 home runs. He ranked among the best hitters in MLB in average exit velocity, barrel percentage and hard contact percentage.

Alonso’s second attempt

Prior to the start of the 2025 campaign, the first baseman and coveted hitter was a free agent. In the 2024 offseason, there was much talk of his departure from the Mets. In fact, he came close to leaving. The Toronto Blue Jays offered a $100 million contract. However, no agreement was reached in the negotiations and the Canadian team withdrew the offer.

Alonso opted to sign a two-year, $54 million contract to return to New York with the goal of performing well, waiving the 2025 option and entering free agency again.

MLB Trade Rumors predicts that he will sign a four-year, $110 million contract for the 2026 season. One of the organizations most interested in him is the Baltimore Orioles, although it is not known if they are willing to open the checkbook for more than $100 million.
