The New York Mets snatched their arch-rival’s great star, Juan Soto. The Dominican had quite a few options in free agency to stay in a top MLB project.
Finally, Juan Soto broke his silence and revealed more details about his choice with the Mets over the Yankees, as both New York franchises were in a ‘war‘ of one against one for the baseball player.
“The Yankees were number one, from day one,” Soto said in an interview with Sports Illustrated.
So what made you change your mind? The huge million-dollar offer they put on the table or the project?
Juan Soto feels valued by Mets
It is true that the $765 million contract had a lot to do with his decision, however, the Dominican felt more valued by the family treatment he is receiving.
“I mean the effort he puts in,”Juan said. “He tries really hard. They got my family involved. My family, and the way they take care of everything. You have to take care of them”.
However, Juan also wanted to make it clear that there was never a bad relationship between his family and the treatment he received from the Yankees.
Some sources reported that, during the 2024 season, Soto was uncomfortable with a situation in which a Yankees security agent restricted access to his family member and his cook/driver in some areas of the stadium, which caused discomfort in the player.
“Nothing happened. All that news that came out that security… they bring my family, that they do not leave them alone, and all that nonsense. That’s not true. The Yankees’ security, those guys, were first class with me and my family,” said the Mets player.
That being denied a private suite had no bearing on his decision
Another rumor that surfaced was that Juan Soto rejected the Yankees, for not fulfilling his whim of having access to a private box at Yankee Stadium.
On this occasion, Soto also denied these versions and confirmed that it was not a factor to consider when switching to the Mets.
His comments are already being criticized by Yankees faithful, but with the start of the season just around the corner, it seems they will save all that for the next meeting between the Yankees and Mets
