Juan Manuel Marquez criticizes Canelo Alvarez and Eddy Reynoso: “They had no strategy”

The reactions to the third defeat in the professional career of Mexican boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez last Saturday against his American colleague Terence Crawford do not stop after the fight that ended after intense 12 rounds in a crowded Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada with a unanimous decision in favor of the challenger in one of the most anticipated fights, if not the most anticipated of 2025 in the sport of fists.

Boxing experts such as Eduardo Camarena and David Faitelson have agreed, as we have reported in Marca MX, that it was a complete boxing lesson from the man nicknamed ‘Bud’, born just under 38 years ago (September 28, 1987) in Omaha, Nebraska over the gladiator born 35 years ago (July 19, 1990) in Guadalajara, Jalisco. However, former Mexican world champion Juan Manuel Marquez went even further, pointing out not only the Mexican’s technical limitations, but also the lack of resources.

What does Juan Manuel Marquez think of Canelo Alvarez’s defeat?

“With all due respect, limited in some episodes (he was) limited and had no strategy, and also part of the corner not to send him to make another type of change, that’s a problem, there is no plan B, I think the corner has to do in that sense,” said ‘Dinamita’ in an exclusive interview with Blck Mnky TV. “(Canelo was) in some competitive rounds, but the technique of boxing, counter-punching and I think also use very well the distance of Crawford made him aspire to reach victory, handles both guards and I think they gave better results the left guard.”

It should be remembered that this fight was for the undisputed title of the four governing bodies of world boxing in the super middleweight division, with ‘Canelo’ Alvarez as the defending champion, forcing Terence Crawford to move up three weight divisions from the welterweight division.

Former Mexican boxers critical of Canelo Alvarez

Juan Manuel Marquez has been a regular critic of Canelo’s decisions, from the choice of his opponents to his quality in the ring and his corner led by his trainer Eddy Reynoso, so this defeat undoubtedly gave him more material to expose his concepts with respect to his colleague, in the same way a contemporary of his, Marco Antonio Barrera, was banned by the fighter to analyze the fight through the streaming of Netflix.
