Journalist considers Canelo Alvarez successful because he lives in the era of “lean times”

Saul Canelo Alvarez is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding boxers in the history of the sport in Mexico and has managed to go far, gaining worldwide recognition.

The Mexican has managed to be champion in four different divisions, standing out in the super middleweight, also getting WBC and WBA 168-pound belts in 2020.

What did Lalo Camarena say about Canelo’s success?

After this success, journalist Lalo Camarena believes that the boxer was in a comfortable era to shine in this division.

This was revealed in an interview with Marco Antonio Barrera on the podcast “Un Round Mas”, where he compared the categories, assuring that the native of Guadalajara is living a “lean period”.

“What I believe, Marco, is that it is a time of lean times in the super middleweight division. You compare it, for example, with the super lightweights or with the lightweights or you see the middleweights, the heavyweights or light heavyweights today, and there is more quality, there is more opposition and it is not the boxer’s fault, but it has been an easy time for Canelo Alvarez as a super middleweight champion, which is the division where he has made more defenses and more world title fights, where he has reigned in greater number of fights,” he said.

What is Canelo’s next fight and when is it?

Canelo Alvarez is currently preparing to step into the ring once again on Saturday, May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to face William Scull.

If he wins the super middleweight championship, he could face Terence Crawford in September.

While he is expected to have other fights by 2026, some of the names being considered for him are Chris Eubank Jr, Conor Benn or Dmitry Bivol.
