Josh Allen’s misfortunes strike a chord with Dan Orlovsky: He might be the most haunted player in the history of the NFL

The Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen has repeatedly found himself on the wrong side of history, falling short in the playoffs against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs once again, leading to Dan Orlovsky to brutally describe the woes of the quarterback.

Orlovsky, an ex QB who now works as a pundit for ESPN, didn’t hold back in his assessment of the 29-year-old’s misfortunes after he was dumped out of the AFC Championship game on January 26.

“I think it’s the most haunted organization and might be the most haunted player in the history of the NFL,” Orlovsky stated on ESPN’s Get Up. “Your quarterback plays just as good-just as good in all those games-and the point differential is only five points.”

The loss at the Arrowhead Stadium once again ensured the Chiefs cut short his quest for a first Super Bowl ring for himself, and a first in franchise history for the Bills, as they miss out on the final game of the 2024/25 NFL season in New Orleans.

Despite Allen’s individual brilliance securing a 4-1 record against Mahomes in the regular season, most recently a 30-21 win on November 17, he has been unable to lead Buffalo past Kansas City in the postseason.

Allen’s playoffs curse against Mahomes

The rivalry between Allen and Mahomes has produced some of the most thrilling games in recent NFL history as two of the leading quarterbacks in the sport go head-to-head over and over.

The 2022 AFC Divisional Round clash between the Bills and Chiefs is widely regarded as one of the greatest playoff games ever. On that night, Allen threw for 329 yards and four touchdowns, including what appeared to be the game-winning score with just 13 seconds remaining.

But Mahomes pulled off a miracle, orchestrating a two-play drive to set up a game-tying field goal with virtually zero time left on the clock. Then overtime, the 29-year-old Chiefs ace sealed the victory with a touchdown to Travis Kelce.

Most recently, in the 2024/25 AFC Championship Game, the Bills were once again undone by controversial officiating and costly mistakes as they crashed out of the NFL Playoffs in their latest attempt.

Firstly, Allen led a potential game-winning drive, but on a crucial fourth-down attempt, his pass to Dalton Kincaid fell incomplete, sealing yet another playoff exit at the hands of Mahomes and the Chiefs.

However, the referees found themselves at the heart of it all when Allen appeared to cross the line on a fourth down before being pushed back by defenders. Ruled incomplete on the field, the officials eventually upheld the call via video review as the Chiefs secured the win.
