Josh Allen loses two key players just as the Bills fight to keep their season alive

The Buffalo Bills enter Week 11 with a shrinking margin in the AFC East race, and their pursuit of the division leading New England Patriots has taken another unwelcome turn.

Ahead of a crucial home meeting with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, quarterback Josh Allen will be without two significant contributors.

ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg reported the update, writing: “Bills coach Sean McDermott said on @WGR550 that TE Dalton Kincaid (hamstring) and DT Phidarian Mathis (shoulder) are OUT for Sunday’s game vs. the Buccaneers.”

Kincaid’s loss is especially damaging for an offense still regrouping after a 30-13 defeat to the Miami Dolphins. The tight end exited that game in the third quarter and has yet to practice this week. The team had already been cautious, listing him as week to week and preparing for the possibility of a longer recovery window.

Despite the limited sample size, Kincaid has been one of Allen‘s most productive weapons.

In eight appearances, he has recorded 29 receptions for 448 yards and four touchdowns, pacing the team in scores and ranking second in yardage. With him sidelined, tight ends Dawson Knox and Jackson Hawes will assume larger roles.

Defensive depth tested as Mathis ruled out

Kincaid is not the only absence affecting Buffalo’s preparation. Defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis, who had worked into the rotation after being elevated from the practice squad in September, will also miss the game due to a shoulder injury. His absence likely increases opportunities for Jordan Phillips on the interior line.

The injury report extends to the secondary as well. Cornerback Cam Lewis remains limited with a calf issue, while CB Taron Johnson is managing a similar workload.

However, several defensive contributors are trending in a positive direction. Christian Benford, A.J. Epenesa, T.J. Sanders, Shaq Thompson and Joshua Palmer all participated fully on Thursday, suggesting the defense may be healthier than it has been in weeks.

Still, Kincaid‘s absence has generated the most reaction among supporters.

One fan wrote, “Josh Allen already looks bad enough as it is, too,” while another added, “Dude ain’t just the TE he is currently our whole receiving offense.” Their concerns reflect the tight end’s growing importance to a unit searching for consistency.

As the Bills attempt to maintain pace in the AFC race, Sunday’s matchup will test their ability to adapt. With multiple starters unavailable and the offense under scrutiny, Buffalo enters Week 11 needing clarity, composure and production in a game that could shape the remainder of its season.
