Fireballs GC, the LIV Golf team, has announced the signing of Spanish amateur Josele Ballester. The 21-year-old signs a multi-year contract, according to the circuit itself. Ballester is therefore leaving amateur golf and will make his professional debut this week at the LIV Golf Virginia tournament, officially joining the team led by his compatriot and captain, Sergio Garcia.

“We are very excited to have Josele join the team,” said Garcia. “I have known him personally since he was a child and could hold a golf club. He has worked with my father, Victor, as his coach throughout his career. Josele will not only be a great addition to the Fireballs, but also to the entire LIV Golf League. I am very excited to accompany him in his professional debut,” he added.

Ballester is currently ranked number 6 in the World Amateur Ranking, and has won the 2024 U.S. Amateur, the 2023 European Amateur Championship and the 2020 Spanish Amateur Championship. After competing in the Masters at Augusta in April, Josele will also be at the US Open from June 12-15 at Oakmont.

“First of all, I want to thank my family, coaches, friends and Arizona State University for supporting me and trusting me to reach this moment in my career,” said Josele Ballester. “I am very excited about the opportunity to join Fireballs GC and continue to learn from Sergio and other great players,” said the player from Castellon.

Ballester will take the place of Luis Masaveu, although he will remain in the lineup this week in Virginia as a substitute player due to the absence of David Puig, who is currently out of competition due to a back injury suffered during the final round of LIV Golf Korea. Despite the pain, Puig managed to finish the tournament and make the cut at the recent PGA Championship.
