Jonathan Mingo’s knee injury becomes a new problem for the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are one of the teams that have the most media pressure each season, and this is no exception. As the most powerful team, economically speaking, expectations are high.

However, the outlook prior to the start of the season has begun to cloud due to an injury to one of its important pieces, wide receiver Jonathan Mingo.

What happened to Jonathan Mingo?

The Dallas Cowboys face a new setback in their 2025 preseason. Wide receiver Jonathan Mingo suffered a knee injury during Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, and could be out for several weeks, according to ESPN.

Mingo, who was in the midst of competing for a permanent place on the team, was injured when he fell awkwardly on a passing play in the end zone.

Just one play earlier, he had recorded a 49-yard reception, showing the kind of explosiveness coaches were hoping to see in this camp.

When will Jonathan Mingo return?

The injury, according to initial reports, would affect the posterior cruciate ligament of the right knee, however, it is not yet known how long he will be out.

Jonathan Mingo underwent an MRI to determine the exact severity, but it is already anticipated that he will be inactive for at least a few weeks, missing the start of the season.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer has not offered concrete details, although he was cautious in his post-game statements.

This situation complicates the outlook for the young receiver, who joined Dallas in a trade with the Panthers last year. With just five receptions for 46 yards in eight games last season, Mingo was beginning to stand out in practice and was looking to stay as the No. 4 or 5 receiver on the team. His ability to contribute on special teams was also seen as an advantage.

A preseason full of doubts for the Cowboys

Jonathan Mingo’s injury adds to a difficult atmosphere in the Cowboys’ camp, as the team has suffered two consecutive preseason defeats and has shown poor offensive performance.

Quarterback Joe Milton has failed to establish rhythm in the early stages of games, and other receivers such as Jalen Cropper have also failed to take their chances, creating uncertainty about the final roster.

While some young talents such as guard Tyler Booker and linebacker Marist Liufau have shown positive signs, other players have yet to establish themselves. In addition, the coaching staff has been criticized for the lack of effective ground play and poor offensive line protection.

Despite this, the message from the team has been one of calm. Schottenheimer has said that there is no need to “press the panic button” and reminded that the preseason does not define what the team will be in September.
