John Sterling: Juan Soto has better World Series odds than Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton

Despite having stars such as Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, the New York Yankees are not entirely convincing this season.

His inconsistency has raised doubts, and now even historic voices within the team suggest that Juan Soto‘s side might have a better chance of reaching the title in October.

Veteran commentator John Sterling surprised by saying that the Mets have a stronger and more solid roster to reach the World Series. Although he recognized the offensive power of Judge and Stanton, Sterling stressed that the Yankees need to improve their pitching if they want to compete at the highest level. “They have home run power, but what they need is very good pitching,” he said.

Yankees lose ground in the division

The Yankees are currently third in the American League East, behind the Blue Jays and Red Sox. Their 64-57 record reflects a drop in performance after a good start to the season. Meanwhile, the Mets are second in the National League East with a 64-56 record, reinforcing the perception that they have a better chance of advancing.

World Series odds favor others

According to the bookmakers, the Yankees have a +800 line to win the World Series, behind teams such as the Dodgers, who are favorites. Despite reaching the final the previous year, the team has suffered significant losses such as the departure of Juan Soto and Anthony Rizzo, as well as injuries that have affected their performance.

Aaron Judge is still the key

The 2024 American League MVP, Aaron Judge, continues to be the offensive linchpin for the Yankees. However, he needs support from players such as Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton, who is currently injured. The team is also relying on the return of Gerrit Cole as the leader of the pitching rotation.

Can the Yankees react?

With time running out and the pressure on from the fans, the Yankees must find consistency if they are to secure a postseason berth. Although they have talent, the lack of results has created uncertainty. Meanwhile, Juan Soto and the Mets continue to gain ground and could become the big surprise in October.
