During his first appearence as a new head coach for the New York Giants on Tuesday, John Harbaugh, before all media and journalists, had some words that resonated a lot on social media when he showed gratitude for President Donald Trump’s constant support on his hiring.
In what was meant to be a football-only speech filled with talk of what to enhance and practise for their championship aspirations, the atmosphere took a surprising turn when John Harbaugh did not shy away from the President’s vocal endorsement and admitted that it felt “really great” when Trump approved his arrival.
“It feels really great”
On his first official date with the New York media, Harbaugh was asked about the series of posts in which Donald Trump urged the Giants to hire him “without question,” calling him a “total winner.”
Harbaugh admitted to the room that knowing Trump was in his corner felt really great. He even joked about the wording of the President’s Jan. 10 post, which commanded both the team to hire him and Harbaugh to take the job.
“It feels great add I’ll tell ya, I also noticed on that post he said ‘And John take the job,’ so I thought John Mara had something to do with it.
However, to avoid any political discussion, he argued that the reason behind Trump’s comments is simply his passion for the sport. He indicated that the Giants is the most iconic franchise and everybody follows it, so it is normal that people have their say:
“It’s sports. Everybody’s excited, everybody follows it. At every level, people follow football, they follow the Giants, they follow the National Football League. Like we said it’s the biggest sport. It’s the most iconic franchise in the biggest sport, so here we are.
Their known relationship
The connection between the Harbaugh family and Donald Trump is not new. In July 2025, John and his brother Jim (head coach of the Chargers) famously visited the White House with their parents and children. At the time, John described the experience as “awesome,” noting his appreciation for the way the President treated his mother.
On January 10, Trump’s claim for the Giants and Harbourgh to join forces was made, leaving no room for second thoughts as the deal between the two was sealed just 10 days after.
