Joel Embiid could need another knee surgery and a long recovery process

Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid has admitted that his left knee injury may require further surgery, which would lead to a prolonged recovery period. During the broadcast of the game between the 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks, ESPN reporter Lisa Salters revealed that Embiid believes his knee has not yet fully healed and is likely to need further medical intervention.

“Another surgery is likely and a long recovery period,” confessed the current NBA MVP, according to Salters’ report.

Injuries have been a major obstacle for the Sixers this season, as Embiid has played in just 16 of the team’s first 52 games. Despite this, in his recent return to the court, he achieved a triple-double with 29 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists against the Dallas Mavericks, proving that he is still a key player when he is fit to compete.

Sixers on alert for star’s health

From the team’s management, the president of operations, Daryl Morey, has assured that doctors consider the injury to be manageable, although the recovery has been slower than expected. “According to consultations with medical experts, the injury is treatable and we expect it to improve over time,” Morey explained. However, uncertainty about Embiid’s health is a concern for the 76ers, who are looking to remain competitive in the Eastern Conference and secure their place in the playoffs.

Embiid, 30, did not rule out the possibility of surgery in the offseason if the problems persist. “When you have something that is inconsistent, at some point, you have to do something about it,” the center said.

If Embiid opts for surgery in the short term, he could miss the rest of the season, which would be a blow to the team’s aspirations. The final decision will depend on how his injury progresses in the coming weeks.
