Joe Flacco’s starting role in jeopardy against Kenny Pickett, WWE star claims; age is the biggest concern

The Cleveland Browns’ ongoing quarterback saga shows no sign of ending soon. Speculation continues to swirl until head coach Kevin Stefanski officially announces who will lead the offense for the 2025 season. For now, rumors and predictions dominate discussions, with Kenny Pickett widely considered the frontrunner, though an untimely hamstring injury has complicated matters and reopened the door for veteran Joe Flacco.

Cleveland’s decision to carry four quarterbacks into training camp remains puzzling to many analysts. Beyond Pickett and Flacco, the battle also includes Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

Pickett appeared to have the edge before his injury, but with Flacco – now 40 – back in the mix after impressing during his stint with the Indianapolis Colts, the veteran could reclaim a starting role.

However, WWE superstar The Miz, a lifelong Browns fan, believes Flacco’s age poses a major issue in a position crowded with younger, hungrier players eager to make their mark.

The Miz and his unwavering Browns loyalty

The Miz has never shied away from expressing his devotion to Cleveland. Speaking with radio host Jim Rome ahead of WWE’s SummerSlam event at MetLife Stadium in New York, he reflected on the emotional roller coaster of supporting the franchise:

So you look at it as we have a lot of lows. I don’t think you understand what a Browns fan does every single offseason. Every single offseason, every single draft, we look at it and go, this is our year. We could actually win the Super Bowl.

He also weighed in on the viral moment during the unveiling of the team’s “Alpha Dog” helmet, when a videographer accidentally fell into a lake:

I heard a lot of negative feedback from this helmet… I’m in, I love it. I love the new trends.

QB competition draws heightened scrutiny

Addressing the ongoing quarterback battle, The Miz predicted Pickett will ultimately win the starting job and even suggested Flacco could be traded:

I think it’s going to be Pickett to start the season. They’re probably going to trade Flacco… See what Pickett has because Pickett is an MVP of off-seasons and pre-seasons. I want to see what he does… What’s Kevin Stefanski able to do with quarterbacks is unlike any other system in all of the NFL.

The WWE star also defended Cleveland’s defensive potential:

You think we’re gonna be the worst team in all the NFL with Myles Garrett on our team? You’re kidding me. Like, the defense is stout. The defense is going to be great.

Since 2020, Stefanski has built a reputation for adapting to adversity, guiding Cleveland to the 2023 postseason despite starting five different quarterbacks and finishing 11-6. That year earned him Coach of the Year honors and a .650 winning percentage. Yet, following last season’s decline, his future may hinge on whether this unorthodox quarterback experiment revitalizes the Browns, or marks the end of his tenure in Cleveland.
