The Week 7 NFL Thursday Night Football (TNF) matchup saw the Cincinnati Bengals, led by Joe Flacco-who had been with the team for only 10 days-pull off an unexpected 33-31 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in a thrilling back-and-forth game. With this win, the Bengals remain alive in the AFC.
Flacco completed 31 of 47 passes for 342 yards and 3 touchdowns, leading the Bengals to their first victory since Joe Burrow’s injury in Week 2. The spotlight also shone on Ja’Marr Chase, who had a stellar game with 16 receptions for 161 yards and a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Aaron Rodgers put on an admirable performance, even with a couple of costly first-half interceptions. The Steelers’ quarterback threw 4 touchdown passes, all to his tight end Pat Freiermuth, including a spectacular 68-yard connection. It was a great AFC North matchup on TNF.
Bengals fans sarcastically thank the Cleveland Browns
Joe Flacco began the season as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, but after four poor performances-throwing only a couple of touchdown passes and six interceptions-he was benched in favor of rookie Dillon Gabriel.
After playing as a backup for the Browns, Flacco was surprised to be sent to a divisional rival when he was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals. Immediately, he became the team’s starting quarterback. Although he lost against the Green Bay Packers last Sunday, he now secured an impressive victory.
Following the win over the Steelers, where Flacco threw for 342 yards and 3 touchdowns, Bengals fans approached postgame interviews, shouting sarcastically: “Thank You, Cleveland.”
Flacco’s main goal with the Bengals is to keep the team competitive and maintain hope for when Joe Burrow returns as the starter in mid-December. Burrow suffered a Grade 3 “turf toe” injury on his left foot in Week 2, underwent surgery, and is expected to return by the end of the season.
