Joe Burrow shrugs off Bengals’ playoff elimination to focus on “having fun playing”

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow delivered one of his most spirited performances of the 2025 season as his team dismantled the Miami Dolphins in Week 16.

With his arm and playmaking, Burrow finished the game completing 25 of 32 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions, a performance buoyed by a 146.5 passer rating, the second-highest of his career.

His efficiency and calm presence under pressure highlighted why he is considered one of the NFL’s elite young quarterbacks.

After a difficult outing in Week 15 that saw the Bengals shut out by the Baltimore Ravens, Burrow‘s bounce-back provided a bright moment in a season that has often been inconsistent.

While Cincinnati has already been eliminated from playoff contention, the quarterback framed the victory not only as a personal success but also as a reminder of why he loves playing the game.

“It was fun,” Burrow said in his postgame remarks. “I’m having fun playing football. Not playing football is not fun. Sitting in the locker room rehabbing all day, that’s not why you do it. This is why you do it right here.”

Burrow rediscovers joy amid struggles

The Bengals’ dominant performance was not only a statistical success but also a psychological lift for Burrow and his teammates. The quarterback acknowledged that he played a relatively clean game, though he admitted to getting “a little greedy” on one over-the-middle pass.

He emphasized the importance of playing within the team’s scheme while also taking calculated opportunities to make plays when possible. This balance between discipline and aggressiveness is a hallmark of his development as a top-tier NFL quarterback.

Despite Cincinnati’s playoff elimination, the offense executed at a high level, particularly in the second half, capitalizing on Miami turnovers and turning the game decisively in their favor.

Burrow‘s leadership and poise allowed the team to showcase its talent and provided fans with a glimpse of the Bengals’ potential when the squad is firing on all cylinders.

Looking ahead, Burrow and the Bengals still have two home games to finish the 2025 season against the Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns. While the stakes are lower, Burrow has stressed the importance of enjoying the game and finishing strong.

For a player of his caliber, finding joy in football, and not just focusing on wins or statistics, is key to why he plays the sport.
