Jimmy Butler’s off-court struggles are heating up as the Miami Heat star finds himself embroiled in a fiery custody and child support battle with ex-girlfriend Kaitlin Nowak. The feud centers on their three children-Rylee, 5, Brayan, 2, and Kian, 1-and a staggering $55,000 monthly child support payment.
The 35-year-old NBA All-Star has filed a motion to modify their prior custody agreement, arguing that the $10,000 additional monthly payment for a nanny, which Buttler claims far exceeds the kids’ needs.
Butler points out that Rylee will start school this year, and Brayan is set to enroll in preschool. Furthermore, he accuses Nowak of being “unemployed and refusing to seek employment,” suggesting she mismanages the funds.
Butler wants to monitor how Nowak spend his money
“If she can’t afford a nanny despite this support, it’s time for an accounting of her spending,” Butler’s legal team stated. They’ve also hinted at appointing a guardian to oversee how the funds are used.
Nowak, however, is pushing back, with her attorney vowing to respond to Butler’s claims in court. The couple, who began dating in 2019 but never married, had kept their relationship private.
Their legal battle comes after their confidential 2023 custody agreement, which Nowak argues should remain in effect. In court documents, the Heat star asserts, “Mother is not entitled to live as if she is married to an NBA player.”
Things aren’t going well with the Heat either
On the court, Butler’s frustration is equally palpable. Suspended by the Heat for seven games due to conduct detrimental to the team, the six-time All-Star has publicly hinted at a falling-out with team president Pat Riley.
In a recent Instagram video filmed at his Big Face Coffee shop, Butler quipped, “Bosses build you up, they don’t break you down,” in what many see as a jab at Riley.
As the Feb. 6 trade deadline looms, Butler’s desire to leave Miami is no secret. With personal and professional tensions escalating, it’s clear the Heat star has a full plate-both on and off the court.
