Jimmy Butler needed just 13 games to become the first Warrior to record a triple double this season.
The former Marquette University standout has two triple-doubles on the season – the other came as a member of the Miami Heat on December 16.
On Monday against the Portland Trail Blazers, he also tallied three steals, shot 7-for-8 from the foul line and committed just one turnover – continuing the positive trends that have led to a 12-1 record with the six-time All-Star in the lineup.
Butler and Kerr get into an argument
During the final seconds of the Warriors vs. Trail Blazers game, Jimmy Butler broke the unspoken NBA rule – shooting a non-contested jumper instead of running out the clock with his team well ahead. Golden State was up by 11 points and closing in on a certain victory.
At first, it seemed like Butler took the initiative himself, but it turns out that head coach Steve Kerr motivated him to commit the act in the first place. And after watching a couple of replays, you can clearly see Butler looking at Kerr for approval before taking that shot.
However, there were some issues with that as a video postgame shows the iconic head coach and former Chicago Bulls guard exchanging words with Butler, who looked visibly upset that he had to make that decision on the court, which made some Portland players mad.
Kerr acknowledged it post-game. “I told him, we don’t do shot clock violations, you know. So, if there is a shot clock differential, we always shoot. So, at the end of the game, he caught it, and he looked at me, and I said, ‘Shoot.’ He said ‘okay’ and he shot it.”
Curry and his impact on the Warriors
All-Star guard Stephen Curry sank five 3-pointers against the Portland Trail Blazers, finishing the night with 251 threes this season. The former Davidson Wildcat standout has eclipsed 250 threes in 11 different season, the most such seasons by any player in NBA history.
The iconic baller is closely approaching another shooting milestone, as he’s two 3-pointers away from being the first player to reach 4,000 career treys. It’s no wonder that NBA analysts and fans alike believe that the guard is the best shooter the game has seen.
Stephen Curry has a chance to become the first player in NBA history to make 4,000 career 3-pointers when the Warriors will host the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center on Thursday. Curry is two 3-pointers away from the historic feat.
