In a crushing 40-14 defeat to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at Highmark Stadium, Aaron Rodgers endured one of the most difficult performances of his career. This latest setback added another chapter to what has been a disappointing campaign for both Rodgers and the Jets.
Rodgers struggled mightily against the Bills, completing just 12 of 18 passes for 112 yards and throwing two interceptions. He was sacked four times, one of which resulted in a safety, and his output marked his lowest yardage total since 2019, when he recorded only 104 yards in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
“It’s kind of like the season just got away from us,” Rodgers admitted. “Too many games got away from us. This game got away from us. We were moving the ball well, and then we just hit a wall. And that’s kind of the season.”
The Jets showed flashes of promise early in the game, moving the ball effectively on their first two drives but coming away with no points.

“The two times we played [the Bills] this year, we moved the ball pretty well and just hurt ourselves,” Rodgers reflected. “We scored more points in the first one (20). But when you watch that first one back, we had plenty of chances to win the game. Today, we moved the ball well the first two drives [and got] no points, and after half the game got away from us.”
Tyrod Taylor steps in
Rodgers was replaced by backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor in the fourth quarter as the game spiraled out of reach. Taylor brought a spark to the offense, completing 11 of 14 passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
“Going out and competing as a competitor, that’s what you love to do,” Taylor said after the game. “Obviously, you never want to be [playing] at the cost of injury or in a blowout. But when your number’s called, you have to go out there and perform. It was good to get out there and put some plays on film.”
Questions loom over Rodgers’ future
Davante Adams, Rodgers’ former teammate and close friend, offered insight into the quarterback’s challenges this season.
“For Aaron, a lot of this season has been plagued by injury,” Adams said.
“There have been some things he’s going through, and obviously, he hasn’t been able to put his best product out there.
“He’s 41 years old, and playing this game at the level expected is not easy to do. I’m proud of him and I let him know that every time we’re together.”
