Jerry Jones turns the Dallas Cowboys into the NFL’s biggest spectacle

The legendary owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, once again made it clear that his team doesn’t just play football-it stars in a media spectacle that never shuts off. During the premiere of Netflix’s new series America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, Jones had no qualms about confessing why the franchise always grabs headlines.

“I think if they’re not looking at us, I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure they do,” he said with a smile. To him, the NFL is a “factory of interest” that runs 365 days a year. As he explained, while other productions have to invest heavily in promotion, the Cowboys are already a constant soap opera on their own. “When things slow down, I’ll be the one to stir them up,” he added.

Jones stirs controversy as a strategy

Jones didn’t just talk about athletic talent. He acknowledged that beyond having great athletes, the real draw lies in the “spark,” the excitement, and above all, the controversy. “That controversy is good for keeping people’s attention,” he stated. This style has turned the Cowboys into a magnet for the press and social media.

However, not everyone views this strategy favorably. The team is currently in the middle of a tense contract dispute with defensive star Micah Parsons-a conflict that, while generating huge audience numbers, could impact performance on the field.

The Cowboys are always at the center

It’s no secret that Dallas has always been under the NFL spotlight. Still, the media shine hasn’t translated into recent titles. It’s been 29 years since the Cowboys last lifted a Super Bowl trophy, and for some critics, the excess drama has distracted from the real goal: winning.

Even so, Jones seems comfortable with the formula. He knows that in the business of professional sports, narrative and spectacle can be just as valuable as victories. With a mix of stars, controversies, and memorable moments, the Cowboys have cemented themselves as the league’s most media-driven team-for better or worse.

With the new Netflix docuseries about to hit screens, Jerry Jones proves that in Dallas, the game isn’t limited to four quarters-the real match plays out all year long, and he’s the director of that soap opera called the Dallas Cowboys.
