Jerry Jones drops bombshell on possible George Pickens renewal with the Dallas Cowboys

After CeeDee Lamb’s injury with theDallas Cowboys, George Pickens stepped up to fill the massive offensive void left by the star, confirming that his elite level remains intact-and even elevated-following his departure from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Paired with Dak Prescott’s stellar campaign, the wide receiver has made it clear he wants to be recognized among the top NFL wide receivers.

In this scenario, Jerry Jones should be more than thrilled and may already be considering an extension for George Pickens – or at least that’s how it appears.

An Extension That Raises Concerns

The concern stems from Dallas’ history of difficult contract negotiations, as seen recently with Micah Parsons’ extension talks. It remains uncertain whether George Pickens’ contract could face a similarly drawn-out process between player and management.

Jerry Jones, the Cowboys owner, praised Pickens’ excellent work and hinted that his deal could be extended, as reported by Jon Machota in an X post.

“We’ll weigh that,” Jones commented. “We knew full well that if things really went like we want them to go, certainly we need to think about having some room available if we’re going to pay a second receiver at that level.”

This statement raises eyebrows-especially considering how Jones refused to pay one of the league’s best defensive players, and the Cowboys defense has since become one of the weakest units in the NFL.

Jones continued to praise his young receiver:

“He is doing more than we did expect, or that we could have expected,” Jones added. “And what’s really special is he’s a real plus to have around the team. He’s a real plus around his teammates. He’s a great plus around those coaches. Those coaches really think highly of him.

“He’s not only doing it on the field, he’s doing it as a part of the team concept. That’s very important, and in his particular case, should be noted.”

It will take more time to see whether George Pickens will sign a long-term deal with the Cowboys, but the franchise’s leadership seems optimistic.

“We are always looking at what we can do to financially improve where we are,” Jones said. “You don’t financially improve without getting what you pay for. You have to have the talent, you have to have the players… We’ll look carefully at what we’re doing financially, and what we do with George. I can’t tell you how proud I am personally of him because he’s been absolutely as exciting on the field as we expected.”
