Jerry Jones and Dallas will make a sacrifice to bring the NFL to Mexico

Last Saturday, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders and, with it, secured for the second consecutive year, the title of the NFC East division and, incidentally, mathematically eliminated the Dallas Cowboys from the possibility of qualifying for the playoffs and therefore extend their drought without winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

On January 28, 2026, it will be exactly 30 years since the so-called ‘America’s Team’ was crowned Super Bowl champion, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17 in the first month of 1996 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. At the time, they tied the San Francisco 49ers as the most successful team with five Super Bowl wins. Today, that honor is shared by the aforementioned Steelers and the New England Patriots with six.

How long has it been since the Cowboys played in Mexico?

That is why the mentality of this organization is already fully focused on the upcoming 2026 National Football League (NFL) season, where they will once again try to return to the top of professional football and break fasts, one of which we have not described, but which is surely the one that interests us most in our country, as well as being the one that looks more optimistic to really be successful.

On August 27, 2001, the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City hosted a preseason game in Mexico for the last time, when the Cowboys were defeated 21-6 by the Oakland Raiders.

And this Sunday, after the defeat against the Los Angeles Chargers at AT&T Stadium, the owner of the Cowboys, the controversial Jerry Jones, spoke, as usual, to the media in the mixed zone where he assured that they are even willing to give up a home game in 2026 in order to return to the ‘Coloso de Santa Ursula‘.

Jerry Jones will do whatever it takes to play at the Estadio Azteca in 2026

“Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said at the end of the game against the Chargers that he wants to play in Mexico next season even if he has to give up a home game,” wrote ESPN reporter and Cowboys insider Carlos Nava on his X (formerly Twitter) account. “It is the first time he has said he is willing to give up a home game to play in Mexico.”
