The lights are already bright in Santa Clara, and Seattle’s future is quietly coming into focus.

According to reporting from ESPN, the Seattle Seahawks are expected to go up for sale shortly after Super Bowl LX on February 8, a move that has renewed long-standing links between the franchise and Jeff Bezos.

“The eventual sale of the Seahawks and Jeff Bezos have been a potential connection for some time…

Seattle Seahawks: A sale years in the making

Since the death of former owner Paul G. Allen in 2018, the Seahawks have been held by Allen’s estate, overseen by his sister Jody Allen. The estate has consistently stated that, per Allen’s wishes, both the Seahawks and the Portland Trail Blazers would eventually be sold, with proceeds directed toward philanthropy.

What has changed is the timing. ESPN reporters Seth Wickersham and Brady Henderson noted that league and ownership discussions intensified in recent days, with expectations that the franchise would be put on the market shortly after the Super Bowl, regardless of the result against the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium.

Why Jeff Bezos’ name is back in the mix

NFL reporter Jonathan Jones added a familiar layer to the conversation, pointing out that Bezos has long been viewed as a potential buyer. The connection is not new. Bezos previously explored NFL ownership during the sale of the Washington Commanders, before the franchise was sold in 2023 to a group led by Josh Harris for a then-record $6.05 billion.

This time, the figures are even larger. The Seahawks are currently valued at approximately $6.6 billion, with estimates suggesting a final price between $7 billion and $8 billion. According to Forbes, Bezos’ net worth stands near $215 billion as of January 2026, placing him among the few individuals capable of purchasing an NFL franchise outright.

“We’ve already said that will change at some point per Paul’s wishes, but I have no news to share… Our focus right now is winning the Super Bowl and completing the sale of the Portland Trail Blazers in the coming months…

There is also a geographic pull. Seattle is where Amazon grew from a startup into a global powerhouse, and Bezos’ influence remains deeply tied to the region.

League concerns and unresolved questions

Any Bezos-led bid would raise immediate questions within the NFL. Amazon’s exclusive rights to Thursday Night Football present potential conflicts of interest, and league officials would need to establish safeguards before approving a deal. Analysts around the league have noted that these concerns are manageable, but they would likely slow the approval process.

The Allen estate has maintained a consistent public stance. A spokesperson reiterated that the organization does not comment on rumors, adding that the current focus remains on the Super Bowl and the ongoing sale of the Portland Trail Blazers.

A moment shaped by history and value

When Paul Allen purchased the Seahawks in 1997 for roughly $194 million, the move helped secure the franchise’s future in Seattle. Nearly three decades later, a valuation in the billions highlights how dramatically NFL franchises have appreciated, especially compared with past ownership transitions.

After the Super Bowl spotlight fades

Once the season concludes, formal steps toward a sale could begin, including league vetting and potential bids from multiple groups. Whether Bezos ultimately enters the process or another buyer emerges, the Seahawks appear closer than ever to a defining ownership transition.

Reporting is based on coverage from ESPN, franchise valuation data from Forbes, and publicly available statements from the Paul G. Allen estate. Social and league-level reactions were referenced contextually without direct quotation.
