Jazz Chisholm Jr. is having the best year of his career and keeps the Yankees in the playoff race

The New York Yankees remain firmly in the battle for an American League wild-card spot, just half a game behind the Boston Red Sox, despite losing the four-game series to their divisional rival last week. The Bronx Bombers are keeping their October hopes alive thanks to the hot streak of one of their hottest hitters.

Chisholm Jr. in stellar form

The protagonist of this good moment is Jazz Chisholm Jr., who is going through the best year of his career in MLB. Despite missing almost a month due to injury, the infielder has 26 home runs, 24 stolen bases, 66 RBIs and 63 runs scored, with an offensive line of .242/.338/.495 in 102 games.

On Monday, Chisholm reached a new personal best after hitting a two-run homer against the Washington Nationals, bringing his total to 25 home runs on the season. In addition, with his 24 stolen bases, he has joined historic Yankees names such as Alex Rodriguez and Alfonso Soriano, by recording more than eight home runs and eight steals in the same month.

After his record-breaking performance, Chisholm was blunt: he is not content with the Yankees getting just a wild-card spot. “We want to win the division. We’re playing our best baseball right now. We’re never satisfied with second place,” he said. His words reflect the mentality of a team that is looking for more than just a minimal qualification.

The goal is clear: the World Series

The infielder recalled the Yankees’ tough World Series defeat: “We lost the World Series last year and we weren’t satisfied. I don’t think we’re satisfied with finishing second or third in the division. We want to win the division and then win the World Series.” A statement of intent that seeks to further ignite the Bronx faithful.

With the offensive spark of Chisholm Jr. and the drive of the rest of the lineup, the Yankees head into the final stretch of the season with renewed confidence. The 26-year-old infielder is not only enjoying his best statistical campaign, but has also become the competitive voice of the team. Now, the big challenge will be to keep this streak going to secure the division and dream of returning to the top in the Fall Classic.
