Jazz Chisholm Jr. avoids MLB suspension, but fine for violating social media rules stands

Major League Baseball has rescinded the one-game suspension imposed on New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr.April 18, a day after he was ejected against the Tampa Bay Rays. MLB sanctioned him for yelling at umpire John Bacon and for violating its social media policy. Chisholm appealed, which delayed the imposition of sanctions.

MLB announced Sunday that the suspension had been rescinded. According to the agreement, initially reported by the New York Daily News, the fine was upheld, according to a person familiar with the agreement who spoke on condition of anonymity because the details of the fine were not announced.

The problem was posting in the middle of the game

Chisholm was ejected in the seventh inning by home plate umpire John Bacon when he argued after a third strike call on a Mason Montgomery full-count pitch that appeared low. It was his fifth ejection of his career and first with the Yankees.

Chisholm then posted on her X account: “No f****** way!”, and then deleted the post.

MLB regulations prohibit the use of electronic devices during games. The social media policy prohibits “displaying or transmitting content that questions the impartiality of a Major League umpire or in any way denigrates a Major League umpire“.

“I’m furious about losing my temper”

“I didn’t think it was an ejection, but after probably yes,” Chisholm said after that game. “I’m a competitor, so when I go out and I feel like I’m right and I’m told something that doesn’t seem logical to me, I’m going to get angry and I’m going to get angry.”

“I lost my composure. I lost my cool,” he added. “I’ve got to be better than that… I’m definitely furious with myself for losing my cool.”
