Jayson Tatum sends Boston Celtics big message ahead of 2025/26 NBA season

The Boston Celtics could be set for a huge boost as Jayson Tatum remains involved with the organization, despite his Achilles injury and reveals he has taken a quiet but determined approach as he begins the long road to recovery.

He sustained the serious damage in May during a game against the New York Knicks and could be sidelined for the entire 2025/26 NBA season, Tatum is still making his presence felt.

This time through a message that reflects the star’s mindset during this critical period in his career as the five-time All-Star recently posted a photo on his Instagram story with a quote that read, “Don’t call me lucky. I failed more times than you tried.”

The message, which quickly made its way across social media platforms, underscores his competitive mentality and his commitment to overcoming what may be the most difficult obstacle of his NBA journey to date.

As the Celtics adjust to life without their franchise cornerstone, the organization’s offseason decisions have raised eyebrows across the league as they look to manage their expensive salary list.

In an effort to navigate the league’s financial constraints, mainly the luxury tax, the team have axed key veterans like Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday – as well as Georges Niang and two second-round picks to the Utah Jazz in exchange for an undrafted rookie named RJ Luis Jr.

It is a move widely viewed as another cost-cutting measure as with Tatum unavailable, the Celtics appear poised for a transitional season ahead of his much-anticipated return for the 2026/27 NBA season.

Joe Mazzulla may be forced to rely on less proven options such as Luka Garza, depending on roster movement before the season begins, as he looks to switch up the frontcourt.

Could backcourt carry Boston Celtics in 2025/26 NBA season?

Despite the roster shakeup, the backcourt remains solid. Jaylen Brown and Derrick White are expected to carry the scoring load, though the organization may look to limit their minutes in what appears to be a rebuilding year.

This would reduce wear on two of the team’s most important long-term assets and allow Boston to evaluate its younger talent like second-year forward Jordan Walsh. Additionally, Payton Pritchard, who is fresh off a Sixth Man of the Year campaign.

The Celtics also acquired Anfernee Simons from the Portland Trail Blazers in the deal that sent Holiday out west, adding another dynamic guard to the rotation.

Still, none of these moves compensate for the loss of Tatum. The 27-year-old has been central to Boston’s success over the past several seasons, helping lead the team to multiple deep playoff runs and earning All-NBA honors.

His absence is not only felt on the court, but also within the locker room yet for now, the Celtics are shifting focus to development and long-term planning as they prepare for a stronger return in 2026/27 NBA season.
