Jaxson Dart’s return was not what he expected. In a rough game against New England, not even the Patriots’ defensive line’s rough tackles hurt the New York Giants rookie as much as kicker Younghoe Koo’s disastrous field goal attempt midway through the second quarter.
With the Giants trailing 17-7 in the second quarter and desperately needing points before halftime, the team lined up for what should’ve been a routine 46-yard kick. Instead, fans witnessed one of the strangest blunders of the NFL season.
Rather than meeting the football, Koo’s foot dug straight into the turf, causing him to stumble awkwardly as the ball sat untouched. Holder Jamie Gillan, realizing the play had imploded instantly, tried to salvage it by scrambling for the first-down marker – but was swallowed by New England’s defense for a turnover on downs.

The ESPN broadcast caught Dart’s immediate reaction on the sideline. The rookie leaned back, eyes wide, mouthing “Oh my God” – a perfect reflection of New York’s frustration.
The gaffe is just the latest chapter in the Giants’ ongoing kicking nightmare. Graham Gano has battled injuries, Jude McAtamney was cut after missing two extra points against Denver, and now Koo has delivered a low point with a misfire that didn’t travel an inch.
For a team trying to stabilize itself around its promising young quarterback, Monday night’s special-teams meltdown only deepened the chaos.
