There has been a lot of excitement surrounding Jaxson Dart, who was named the New York Giants’ starting quarterback in Week 4 of the NFL season against the Los Angeles Chargers, where he earned his first NFL victory. The quarterback also defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, but in Week 10 he suffered a severe concussion, one of the consequences of which was the firing of head coach Brian Daboll.
Under Daboll’s leadership, Dart accounted for 17 total touchdowns in seven games. He then missed a couple of games and returned in Week 13, but since then he has not been the same under interim head coach Mike Kafka. Criticism has begun to mount, and concern is now evident for New York’s prized quarterback.
Despite everything, there is no doubt that Jaxson Dart has made an immediate impact in the NFL with the Giants, and many believe that if the Draft were held again, he would be the first overall pick. It is worth remembering that the former Ole Miss quarterback was selected by New York with the 25th pick after a trade with the Houston Texans, who originally held that spot.
Jaxson Dart had a terrible game against the Vikings and faced the media
After suffering a severe concussion against the Bears in Week 10, Jaxson Dart returned in prime time against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football in Week 13. From that point on, he has not been the same. Three games have passed since his return, and the quarterback has struggled to adapt to Mike Kafka’s new system, which has clearly been more conservative.
The consequences came in Week 16, when Dart had the worst game of his short NFL career, throwing for just 33 yards and being intercepted once. He also dealt with several dropped passes by Theo Johnson and Darius Slayton. Even so, no one expected numbers that low, and the Giants’ quarterback looked visibly frustrated.
A couple of days after that performance, Jaxson Dart spoke to the media and made it clear that he is confident he will bounce back after what happened against the Vikings: “You look back at the tape, look at the things that you can correct. At the same time, I know the kind of player I am. I’m going to bounce back. I think everybody in their careers is going to have a game that they’re unhappy about, but I’ve done some really good things, too, and I know that my work ethic and my ability to perform, I don’t doubt that at all. I’m excited to have that opportunity and play close to home.”
There is no doubt that Jaxson Dart wants to win next Sunday against the Raiders, but more than ever, the Giants actually need a loss. It sounds strange, but that is the reality: it would almost guarantee them the first pick in the upcoming Draft. A win could slightly affect the organization’s future.
