Jaxson Dart’s presence with the New York Giants has been a perfect fit. Various reports indicate that since arriving at the team’s facilities in East Rutherford, he’s been the center of attention, rising to the occasion at the rookie minicamp.
Dart is poised to be the future of the franchise, and it seems he’ll have a far different start to the NFL season than Shedeur Sanders will with the Cleveland Browns.
Jaxson Dart could be a starter… Shedeur’s role remains uncertain
The excitement of Brian Daboll upon seeing the Giants trade up to draft the quarterback is evident in his interactions with the player, captured on camera.
While the head coach has acknowledged that the Ole Miss product has many areas to refine and will undergo a learning process, some believe he has a shot to start the season on the field.
This perspective was shared on Up and Adams with Kay Adams, where Chris Simms suggested the rookie could get his chance sooner than expected.
“I would not be shocked if it started off right away,” Simms said. “I’m not expecting the Giants to be a super team here. I’m not picking them to go to the playoffs. The amount of money they’re paying Russell Wilson does not guarantee him the starting quarterback job.
“If Jaxson Dart is phenomenal through training camp, he has a good OTAs and preseason while Russell Wilson is just okay and doesn’t look sharp, then I don’t think they’ll be scared to put Jaxson Dart in here. That is why they really liked him coming into the draft.”
Simms believes a more realistic expectation is that Dart sees action between Weeks 5 or 6, but that’s a tough stretch in the NFL calendar for the team.
The Giants open the year with two consecutive away games against the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys, before returning to MetLife Stadium to face the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs and then the Los Angeles Chargers in Weeks 3 and 4. All these teams had stronger offenses than the Giants in 2024 and have significantly improved their rosters.
A highly promising outlook for the young Ole Miss alum, in stark contrast to what Shedeur Sanders faces with the Cleveland Browns.
The son of Coach Prime has no guarantee of being a starter, like most NFL rookies, but he was selected in the seventh round and competes initially with Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted before him. Additionally, veterans Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and Deshaun Watson are in the mix.
The question for fans is whether Sanders will play and when, unlike Jaxson Dart, who many believe will get his opportunity sooner than anticipated.
