There were a few players who shot up draft boards as the 2025 NFL Draft neared. A couple of quarterbacks, in particular, did just that. Tyler Shough being drafted early in the 2nd round was a stunner. Jaxson Dart made a big surge heading into the draft like Shough, but he was considered the much more productive and polished prospect.
That led to the New York Giants trading up to pick him late in the first round. Dart has done everything right since joining the Giants, although he remains a backup behind Russell Wilson and potentially Jameis Winston. Fans want to see him play, even though that may not happen unless Wilson falters or gets injured. If he does get on the field, Dart himself may not be enough for the Giants to win many games, but could he be a breakout player in fantasy football?
Could Jaxson Dart have a Jayden Daniels type of impact in fantasy football?
While highlighting deep sleepers for the upcoming fantasy football season, ESPN’s Tristan Cockcroft listed only one quarterback among his nine players. Dart was that one QB, despite the 22-year-old not being a starter just yet.
In a year light on deep quarterback sleepers, Dart best fits the description as the projected nonstarter with the highest statistical ceiling if he can capture the job… Dart paced all qualified FBS quarterbacks in yards per attempt last season (10.8), and his willingness to create plays with his legs should be plenty appealing to fantasy managers. Monitor his progress, as he’ll be an instant add the moment he’s handed the job.
Cockcroft particularly likes Dart’s big play ability through the air, which could lead to splash plays that are so important in fantasy football. Dart is also very capable of making plays on the ground, which is crucial for fantasy quarterbacks. Quarterbacks with rushing ability are high-floor assets due to being able to add points two different ways.
Dart very well may end up being an intriguing player for fantasy purposes as a rookie, but he’s unlikely to be drafted in most leagues. Wilson is the starting quarterback until further notice, and holding Dart on a regular bench wouldn’t be the best use of roster space. But in two-quarterback or superflex leagues, he very well may be worth a stash.
