Javonte Williams sadly recalls his departure from the Broncos, while experiencing an indomitable offense with Cowboys

The Cowboys remain in the middle of the NFL standings. They have three wins, three losses, one tie, and now they enter the eighth round against a surprising Broncos team. The Cowboys’ offense looks indomitable, and much of that-besides Dak Prescott-is thanks to running back Javonte Williams, who, before the game in Denver, seemed somewhat nostalgic when recalling his departure from Sean Payton’s team.

In their final game of Week 7 of the NFL, in a divisional duel loaded with expectations, the Dallas Cowboys soundly defeated the Washington Commanders by a score of 44-22, standing out not only for their usual potent offense but also for a defense that finally showed signs of improvement; Dallas quarterback Jayden Daniels struggled before leaving with an injury in the third quarter.

Javonte Williams rules out ‘revenge’ with Denver Broncos

Williams, selected by the Broncos in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, was released by the team last year. He signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Cowboys in March. The Broncos released the 25-year-old despite a career-best season with 346 receiving yards and 52 receptions. Williams reflected on his departure from Denver before Sunday’s game.

“It was mutual,” Williams said. “They wanted to go a different route. I felt like the Cowboys wanted me, so that’s where I wanted to be. It was a really good atmosphere,” Williams said. “I loved the team, I loved the staff, the coaches. I had a good time. It probably didn’t go the way I wanted, but hey, here I am now.” The running back has the second-most rushing yards (592) in the league this season.

In addition to his 592 rushing yards, Williams has also recorded seven touchdowns (six rushing touchdowns). His touchdown tally is the most by a Cowboys player through the first seven games of the season. He is coming off a solid performance against the Washington Commanders in his last outing, rushing for 116 yards on 19 carries, his second game with over 100 yards rushing this season.

Matt Eberflus’ defense improves for Cowboys

After the win against Washington, it was clear that Matt Eberflus’s defensive unit, which had been heavily criticized throughout the season, took a significant step forward in stopping an opposing offense that was ranked seventh in scoring. With a more aggressive strategy, including more blitzes and man coverage, the defense achieved its highest number of takeaways of the year.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels struggled before being injured in the third quarter: he completed just 54.5% of his passes, with 156 yards, one touchdown, and one fumble. Meanwhile, the Dallas offense continued to function like a well-oiled machine. Dak Prescott continued his MVP-like performance, completing 70% of his passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns, achieving a rating of 130.4.
