The Kansas City Chiefs have built one of the NFL’s most formidable dynasties in recent memory, making five Super Bowl appearances in six years and capturing three Lombardi Trophies.
Despite a tough loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in last season’s Super Bowl, the Chiefs remain a consensus pick to lead the AFC again in 2025. However, not everyone shares that outlook-and one bold media voice is facing serious heat for saying so.
On Friday’s edition of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, guest host Jason McIntyre sent shockwaves through the sports world with his prediction that the Chiefs will miss the playoffs in the upcoming NFL season.
“I don’t think the Kansas City Chiefs are a playoff team next year,” McIntyre declared.
That claim didn’t sit well with fans-or the internet at large.
The video clip of McIntyre‘s segment, posted to X, quickly went viral for all the wrong reasons.
One user pointed out the contradiction between McIntyre’s take and recent Chiefs history, saying: “‘They haven’t improved’-15-1 with the starters and went to the Super Bowl lol. Not sure how that regresses into a non-playoff team. But ok.”
Another chimed in with sarcasm: “The worst Mahomes has done is OT in an AFCCG. But yes, sure, no playoffs. Happy April 11th!”
“Stupid comment,” one user bluntly concluded.
Chiefs’ playoff consistency speaks louder than takes
What makes McIntyre‘s prediction so jarring is how consistently dominant the Chiefs have been under head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The last time Kansas City failed to reach the postseason was in 2014-Reid‘s second year with the franchise and his only sub-10-win campaign in Kansas City. Even then, the Chiefs still finished with a respectable 9-7 record.
Since Mahomes became the starter in 2018, Kansas City has never won fewer than 12 regular season games. The Chiefs‘ playoff floor has been reaching the AFC Championship Game, and they’ve never been eliminated before the Divisional Round in the Mahomes era.
They’ve also retained a solid core this offseason. Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones remain in place. And while Kansas City hasn’t made blockbuster additions, the team re-signed key contributors and still has room to add pieces before Week 1.
