Jason Kelce throws shade at Dak Prescott after ‘Spitgate’ controversy

The showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles kicked off the 2025 NFL season with intense drama and raw emotion. The long-standing animosity between these NFC East rivals was evident from the very first play, when Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott and Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter clashed in a heated confrontation.

Carter was ejected after he was seen spitting directly at Prescott in full view of an official. However, later footage revealed that the sequence began with a provocation from Prescott, which the referees initially missed but was clearly captured by broadcast cameras. This revelation has sparked speculation that the league may launch an investigation into the incident, potentially leading to further disciplinary action beyond the ejection.

NBC’s broadcast video showed Prescott as the first to spit, with Carter responding moments later during their face-off. Unfortunately for Carter, only his reaction was witnessed by officials on the field, leading to an immediate penalty and ejection.

Upon seeing Carter’s action, referee Shawn Smith wasted no time in throwing the flag, ruling it a “disqualifiable foul” and a “non-football act.” Carter was immediately removed from the game, and the Eagles were penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Jason Kelce reacts to the controversy

The incident quickly went viral, drawing reactions from around the league. Former Philadelphia Eagles Jason Kelce, who lives a great life now that he is retired, said something regarding this on his X account.

The truth shall set you free

Kelce posted the cryptic message on his X account, strongly hinting that Prescott was the one who initiated the altercation. This followed his immediate, unfiltered reaction to the live broadcast of Carter spitting on Prescott:

What in the f**k just happened.

Kelce’s comments fueled even more debate among fans and analysts, underscoring just how charged this season opener had become. The fiery start signaled that the game would be anything but easy for either team, dashing expectations that the reigning champions would effortlessly dismantle a struggling Cowboys squad.

Prescott and Carter share their sides of the story

Following the game, Jalen Carter addressed the media and issued a public apology for his behavior, acknowledging that his actions hurt both his team and their supporters.

It was a mistake that happened on my side. It won’t happen again… I feel bad for just my teammates and fans out there. I’m doing it for them. I’m doing it for my family, also. But the fans, they showed the most love.

Later, Prescott offered his own version of events, firmly denying that he spat at Carter and explaining his perspective.

He was insulting me… I wouldn’t spit on somebody. I’m definitely not trying to spit on you. We’re about to play a game.

Carter’s ejection significantly impacted Philadelphia’s defense, leaving the Eagles without one of their most disruptive pass rushers. This gave Prescott more time in the pocket and breathed life into the Cowboys, altering the game’s momentum early in the season opener.
