Jason Kelce points to other coaches who did the same as Bill Belichick to defend him after spygate

Many voices were raised after learning that Bill Belichick was left out in the Pro Football Hall of Fame voting, preventing the legendary coach from becoming immortal in Canton, Ohio.

For a large segment of experts, former players, former coaches, and league insiders, the decision came as a genuine shock. Belichick’s résumé and legacy appeared untouchable, which is why the outcome immediately sparked intense debate and criticism across the football world.

The Hall of Fame has long been regarded as one of the most respected institutions in American sports, but for many observers, its credibility took a serious hit with this vote. Leaving out a coach widely considered one of the greatest minds the NFL has ever seen led to accusations of inconsistency, bias, and selective memory when evaluating careers that reshaped the modern game.

Supposedly, there was a campaign against Bill Belichick

A strong rumor quickly spread, suggesting that former rivals of Belichick worked against him during the Hall of Fame voting process. Bill Polian, in particular, was singled out as someone allegedly leading a campaign against the longtime Patriots coach. Polian publicly denied any organized effort, yet his comments appeared contradictory when he discussed whether or not he voted for the current North Carolina Tar Heels head coach.

Among those who voiced their displeasure were Tom Brady and respected journalist Peter King. Both expressed disbelief that a coach who led his teams to six Super Bowl titles, more than any other in history, could be denied a place in the Hall, even temporarily. From Polian’s perspective, Belichick was supposedly paying a penalty in his first year of eligibility because of the lingering shadow of Spygate, a scandal that has followed him for years.

Jason Kelce spoke out about Bill Belichick being left out of the Hall of Fame

Since stepping away from active duty with the Philadelphia Eagles, Jason Kelce has become a highly visible and outspoken figure, and he has not stayed silent on this issue. Speaking on sports radio, Kelce challenged the narrative that has long surrounded Spygate and Belichick’s responsibility.

If you are doing signals out in the open so that the other team can see them, and you do it enough and repeatedly that they can then steal it from you. That’s your fault.”…”If you are doing signals so bad that the other team can steal them, that’s your fault.

Kelce argued during his appearance on 94 WIP that responsibility often lies with teams that fail to protect their own information. Addressing claims that Belichick filmed opponents’ practices, the former center insisted the Patriots coach was far from the only one engaging in questionable tactics.

I have heard multiple stories of coaches going into other teams’ hotel rooms to get game plans.

While Spygate undoubtedly impacted Belichick’s reputation, it does not define his entire career. After the scandal, he still guided New England to three more Super Bowl championships. For now, public scrutiny remains firmly on the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and while the decision cannot be undone, many believe it is only a matter of time before Belichick’s place in Canton is secured.
