Jason Kelce became the unexpected focus of controversy after a fake quote attributed to him went viral on social media in the uproar following the NFL’s announcement that global music sensation Bad Bunny will headline the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Bad Bunny, known for hits like “Titi Me Pregunto,” is set to perform at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on February 8 and his selection marks a significant step toward greater cultural representation in one of the world’s most-watched live events.

However, the announcement received mixed responses online. Some praised the move as inclusive, while others questioned whether the reggaeton artist fit the Super Bowl stage as he performs in his first language of Spanish.

Amid the ongoing debate, a post began circulating on X (formerly Twitter) that featured a fake quote attributed to Jason Kelce.

The image claimed Kelce said, “If Bad Bunny is a bad fit for the Super Bowl, then maybe the people making these comments are a bad fit for America’s future.”

The post quickly went viral, prompting confusion and criticism directed toward Kelce. Many users believed he had injected himself into the racially charged conversation surrounding Bad Bunny‘s halftime show, leading to widespread backlash.

Kelce, known for his measured personality and composure when it comes to casting his thoughts and views, later addressed the misinformation directly and quickly distanced himself from it.

“I normally don’t comment on things like this,” Kelce said. “But I feel I need to address that there are a number of accounts posting fake quotes and attributing them to me on this platform right now.

“I appreciate @X putting community notes on several and I will not address the other accounts specifically, because I do not want to amplify their engagement.

“But please know, unless you hear something directly from me via one of my platforms, it is not real.”

Even among the critics of Bad Bunny being named was Donald Trump, who called the decision “absolutely ridiculous” on social media but NFL executives, however, defended the decision, citing the star’s worldwide popularity and appeal.

“Bad Bunny represents the global energy and cultural vibrancy that define today’s music scene,” said Jon Baker, SVP of Global Event Production for the NFL.

“As one of the most influential and streamed artists in the world, his unique ability to bridge genres, languages, and audiences makes him an exciting and natural choice to take the Super Bowl halftime stage.”

The episode highlights the growing issue of misinformation in digital spaces, where fake statements spread rapidly.

Many fans supported Kelce, noting his honesty and straightforward personality, while others criticized how quickly falsehoods are believed online.

As online debates continue, attention will eventually shift back to Bad Bunny‘s upcoming performance. The controversy serves as a cautionary tale about social media’s impact on truth, reputation, and the importance of verifying sources before reacting.

Keanu Reeves to appear on New Heights with Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce

Despite the online tension, Jason and his brother Travis Kelce shared some exciting news for fans of their New Heights podcast.

The brothers announced that acclaimed actor Keanu Reeves will appear as their next guest in an upcoming episode.

Jason introduced Reeves with his usual enthusiasm, calling him “the 6’1 actor from Toronto, Canada, the fourth greatest actor of the 21st century according to The New York Times.”

The clip teased a fun, light-hearted conversation between the trio and in the preview, Reeves jokingly discussed football predictions.

“I think the Kansas City Chiefs are rolling right now, big guy. That’s all I have to say,” Travis Kelce remarked, with Reeves smiling and cheering in agreement as fans reacted enthusiastically online.

The episode promises to deliver the humor and warmth that New Heights listeners love. After a week of unwanted controversy, the Kelce brothers’ announcement offered a welcome reminder of their charisma, humor, and strong fan connection.
