Jason Adam’s injury shakes the Padres: “I felt something break”

In an episode that left the San Diego Padres fan stunned, All-Star reliever Jason Adam suffered a left quadriceps injury during the first game of the series against the Orioles on Monday.

That play caused Jason Adam to be stretchered off the mound and, it seems, ended his participation this season with the San Diego Padres.

This incident occurred during the seventh inning, after his 26th pitch, when Orioles’ Henderson hit a grounder. Jason Adam tried to move to his right to make the out, but his body stopped and by inertia he fell to the ground clutching his left leg.

Jason Adam and Mike Shildt’s reaction to the injury

“I felt like something broke,” were Jason Adam’s first words after his injury became known. In addition, after his departure he was given a standing ovation by the crowd at Petco Park.

Mike Shildt, manager of the San Diego Padres, confirmed that the diagnosis of his player’s injury is a quadriceps tendon injury, so Jason Adam could be out for six to nine months.

In addition, the manager said that Jason Adam is “a key piece on and off the field”. Other teammates also sent messages of support: “He pitches almost every day, he’s been incredible. It was terrible to see him like that,” said Dylan Cease.

Unfortunately for Jason Adam and the San Diego Padres, the 34-year-old was coming off the best season of his career: selected to the All-Star Game for the first time, 1.93 ERA, 70 strikeouts in 65 1/3 innings and an 8-4 record.

Despite the injury, Jason Adam has shown a stoic and admirable attitude, in fact, he sent a message to his San Diego Padres teammates and his contribution to the team.

It’s one day at a time… this group has the mental strength, the talent… there’s everything to win the World Series. I can contribute by being present every day.

San Diego Padres outlook after Jason Adam injury

This is a blow to the San Diego Padres bullpen, although they have candidates to replace Jason Adam. One of them is Mason Miller, acquired at the deadline, Robert Suarez, Adrian Morejon and Wandy Peralta, who will be key in this final stretch.

This comes at a key point in the season, as the San Diego Padres are in the thick of the National League West race. They are 2.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.
