The world’s number one tennis player has shown exactly why he is at the top, as Jannik Sinner lived up to his status as favorite by beating local Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday to claim the US Open title.
With this, Sinner becomes the first Italian to win the US Open, as well as claiming his second Grand Slam singles title. The 23-year-old joins Flavia Pennetta as the only Italians to win the US Open, although she did it in the women’s branch in 2015.
In this final, Taylor Fritz had the goal of being the first American to win the US Open in the last 21 years, but he did not succeed, so Andy Roddick, who was present on Sunday, remains the last to win it, this was in the 2003 edition.

The Italian’s victory comes after he tested positive for doping on August 20, but he was not suspended since it was ruled that he had “no fault or negligence” given that it was due to “involuntary contamination” through the treatment of his then physical therapist.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were present in Sunday’s final, who were together with Patrick and Brittany Mahomes. In addition to Matthew McConaughey, Martha Stewart, Noah Lyles and Elon Musk.
