After surviving a tense semifinal against Félix Auger-Aliassime, marked by a medical timeout due to stomach discomfort, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner heads into the US Open final with one more chapter lined up: his third straight Grand Slam final of 2025, facing rival Carlos Alcaraz.
In an exclusive update, coach Simone Vagnozzi confirmed that the issue was minor and treated effectively. This allows Sinner to approach Sunday’s showdown in strong physical and mental shape.
Sinner’s issue dismissed as minor
During his match, Sinner felt a “small twitching” after serving late in the second set. That prompted a brief medical tiemout, but once the physio treated him, the discomfort vanished. Vagnozzi reassured fans:
He had some abdominal discomfort at one point, but after treatment with the physioterapist, it’s gone away. I don’t think it’s anything serious. He’s very calm ahead of Sunday
Sinner himself echoed that sentiment post match:
At some point I dodn’t feel anything anymore…nothing to worry about
No practice for Sinner, but ready for final
Though Sinner skipped practice on the day before the final, something noted by journalist José Morgado, his coach downplayed concern. Vagnozzi suggested it was a precautionary step, not a sign of lingering injury.
Drawing on past comebacks, like winning Australian Open matches despite illness, Sinner’s team remains confident in his preparation and resilience for the much anticipated duel with Alcaraz.
