The Philadelphia Eagles are ready to run it back after showing the world that they could beat the best NFL team up until Super Bowl LIX: the Kansas City Chiefs.

One of the biggest reasons why the NFC East team won the Vince Lombardy Trophy last February was superstar quarterback Jalen Hurts, who will start the 2025 regular season as one of the team’s eight captains.

Hurts is ready to make a statement during Week 1, as the Eagles get ready to take on the Dallas Cowboys – a division rival – at Lincoln Financial Field. The defending champions will have a chance to shine in front of thousands of fans, and what better way to start the campaign that against one of their biggest, if not, their biggest rivals in the league.

Jalen Hurts connects with DeVonta Smith

Super Bowl champion quarterback Jalen Hurts connected with superstar wide receiver DeVonta Smith during the Philadelphia Eagles‘ latest practice before the NFL 2025 regular season starts, reminding Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the league that they are the team to beat.

During Super Bowl LIX,Hurts and Smith connected for a 46-yard touchdown catch against the Chiefs, as Philadelphia absolutely demolished Kansas City 40-22… and it looks like that connection remains intact, something that’s going to be scary for the rest of the teams.

Jalen, who went through his ups and downs during his college career – he was benched at Alabama and transfered to Oklahoma, where he finished his collegiate days – is not seen as an elite quarterback by some analysts, so that’s definitely something that he will keep in mind during the regular season.

One of the top 20 players in the league

For the third consecutive season, quarterback Jalen Hurts cracked the top 20 of the NFL’s Top 100. The Super Bowl LIX MVP was ranked No. 19 by other players in the league for 2025.

In 15 regular-season starts, the former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback threw for 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns, posting a career-high 68.7 percent completion rate. He also added 630 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

After leading the Eagles to the No. 2 seed in the NFC, Hurts saved his best for last, accounting for four total touchdowns in the NFC Championship game and three scores in Super Bowl LIX on his way to winning MVP honors. Hurts was ranked No. 3 in 2023 and No. 15 last year.
