Jalen Hurts breaks the mold with offseason golf swing: But is it allowed in his contract?

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has become one of the NFL’s brightest stars-and he’s not just making headlines for his performance on the field. This offseason, Hurts is drawing attention for a surprising hobby that sparked rumors of a contract violation: golf.

Back in October 2024, Hurts was seen at a high-profile golf outing alongside former President Barack Obama, team owner Jeffrey Lurie, and running back Saquon Barkley.

Though he showed up in golf attire, Hurts didn’t swing a club. When asked, he said he was told not to golf, referencing a humorous exchange with Lurie.

Initially, it was believed that his $255 million contract contained a clause forbidding the game. However, clarification soon followed.

According to Eagles reporter Jeff McLane, there was no formal clause in Hurts’ contract restricting golf. Instead, it was a verbal request from Lurie, who preferred that his star quarterback not get too absorbed in the sport during the season. Hurts, known for his discipline and respect for leadership, chose to honor that informal agreement.

But now, with the season behind him and his focus on mental recovery, Hurts appears ready to take a few swings.

From the fairway to the film room

In a video shared by reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks, Hurts was spotted practicing his swing in full golf gear, marking a shift in how he’s spending his time off. Far from being a distraction, sources close to the team say golf provides Hurts with a healthy outlet-a way to recharge while maintaining focus and competitive sharpness.

This commitment to balance mirrors Hurts’ broader mission: legacy building. After leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory in 2025 and earning MVP honors, he’s not coasting on past success.

Instead, he’s actively pursuing greatness-and that includes learning from the best.

Hurts has reportedly reached out to legends Michael Jordan and Derek Jeter for insight on how to stay hungry after a championship win. Both athletes are known for their mental toughness and relentless pursuit of excellence.

In fact, Jeter confirmed the interaction, noting that Hurts wasn’t celebrating-he was already asking how to win again.

Now 26, Hurts is chasing a rare milestone: back-to-back Super Bowl wins, a feat most recently achieved by Patrick Mahomes. By aligning himself with some of the most elite competitors in sports, Hurts is showing that for him, one ring isn’t enough.

Jalen Hurts isn’t just preparing for another NFL season-he’s preparing for greatness.
