The relationship between Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown and quarterback Jalen Hurts has become the subject of renewed scrutiny after comments from former Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson suggested that the tension between the two may go well beyond X’s and O’s.
“As you can tell, it’s something else going on,” said DeSean Jackson on his House of Action podcast. “And I got a great relationship with [A.J. Brown]. I respect him. I can’t say it. But I know it’s something else going on. It’s not all about football – it’s not all about X’s and O’s. I’ve had situationships with QBs I didn’t necessarily like. And when it ain’t there, it sticks out like a sore thumb. That’s all Imma say.”
Those words reignited speculation about one of the NFL‘s most dynamic offensive partnerships. Hurts and Brown‘s friendship dates back to high school, when Hurts first tried to recruit Brown to play for Alabama.
Their relationship only deepened after Brown made Hurts the godfather of his child. Yet, their chemistry on the field this season has not mirrored that closeness off it.
From Twitch comments to sideline frustration
The latest signs of friction surfaced when Brown joined Twitch streamer JankyRondo for a casual live stream. When a viewer asked if everything was fine, Brown‘s answer was blunt: his family was fine, but everything else was “a s**t show.”
He added that the Eagles were “struggling” and even told fantasy football players to drop him, a comment that immediately raised eyebrows among fans and analysts.
For a player of Brown‘s stature, such remarks hinted at deep-seated frustration, not just about statistics but possibly about communication and trust within the offense.
DeSean Jackson, while sympathetic to Brown‘s emotions, didn’t spare criticism for how the receiver handled it.
“I’m a realist and I gotta speak the facts,” Jackson said. “I feel like he’s brought a lot of attention upon himself. I think he’s a hell of a talent. As a wide receiver, you should want the ball. But when you’re doing these gimmicks or you’re out on social media, you’re on Twitch, you’re saying all this, it brings more attention to you.”
