It’s no secret that Jake Paul has known how to handle his career in the ring, to the point that he is one of the boxers who took the best purse during 2024. You may or may not like him, but he exploits his popularity in the best way to stay relevant in the boxing world
However, there is one date that Jake would like to erase from existence, the day he fell to Tommy Fury by split decision in 2023.
Almost two years after the fight, there are still doubts among fans as to who was to blame for that defeat, it seems that Kalvin Henderson, a boxer and sparring partner of Jake at the time, has the answer about what happened
“The Rooster’s” trainers had no idea of strategy
Kalvin Henderson spoke in an interview with FightHype about everything he experienced working closely with Jake Paul and his team:
“It was an amazing experience. Not just training with him, but also the experience of being in the Middle East. The culture, the gym, everything was great,” said Kalvin.
Jake Paul at that time, had up to three trainers to prepare for the fight in the best way. Kalvin told a very curious anecdote he had with one of them, as they pointed out that he copied the style of Tommy Fury
Everything was going well, but after the training session, one of them approached him in a very arrogant manner:
“What are you doing, man? We need you to be tougher, come on,” a coach is said to have told HendersonKalvin with a unique opportunity, went along with the guy’s lead and started to get stronger in training with Jake
And then tragedy struck…
For this, one of the three coaches disrespected him and called him “stupid” for the low intensity he was showing.
Kalvin said that this comment did a lot of mental damage to him, he even could not sleep because of overthinking what had happened
The next day, Henderson put his foot on the accelerator, he was determined to put more intensity and aggressiveness into the sparring with Jake Paul, but it had consequences
Henderson ended up breaking his nose and was immediately fired from the team:
“It’s sad to say, but that was the last time I sparred with Mr. Paul,” Kalvin said.
Jake lost his fight with Fury by split decision in a low-level fight, his trainers did not prepare the camp in the best way and it had an effect on the result. We will see if during this 2025 a rematch between the two boxers is achieved.
